Day 6 Moton Museum, Farmville VA

Wednesday Marc and I traveled 5 hours to FarmVille VA to see this museum. I had heard about it when doing research on the homeowner of the site for my daughters upcoming wedding next spring. I expected to see info about Dr. Moton but instead Marc and I ended up viewing the history of our country during the civil rights era. I don't remember hearing or reading about many of these incidents in my history books so the trip turned out to be very informative not to mention shocking at some moments. I can't imagine feeling so much hate for a race that you were willing to forfeit your child's education for nearly 5 yrs to keep them from "mixing" with people of a different color! It just boggles my mind! If your ever in the area or live with driving distance of FarmVille I highly reccomended visiting the site which is free and open to the public. It will blow your mind (at least it did for us)!

Day 10

Our last day with my mom was a Sunday.  It actually felt strange not going to church but this vacation was all about relaxing and spending time with family so we ate a leisurely breakfast. Went exploring to find Pocahontas chimney and even scoped out a vacation home (just in case we ever get a windfall of money one day)! lol Mom and I also took Marc back to the Peanut shop we had visited a few weeks ago while running some wedding errands. Before leaving for home we drove by the new site for my old middle school which was destroyed in a tornado a few yrs ago.

As I get older I have a new appreciation for the place I grew up at. Not sure that I could permanently live there but I appreciate the fact that my mom allows us to "stay" vacation with her each summer for a few weeks. Marc and I left for home Sunday afternoon very much relaxed and well rested! Little did I know I would be back just a few days later!! lol

Day 8 and 9

Thursday Marc went on a job as well as my mom so I spent the day hanging out with my big cousins. That evening Marc and mom picked up the rental car we would be using for the drive to PA and we got our weekend packing done and crawled into bed for the early morning ride.

Early Friday morning we left my moms home and drove 5 hrs to Lancaster PA. We were meeting a van load of people from our church for an overnight trip to see Joseph at the Sight and Sound Theatre and a bit of shopping at the outlets. I had the back seat to myself the entire trip and did a bit of reading (and snacking) but mostly just watched the scenery! lol

We were able to check into the Best Western hotel upon arrival and rested our feet a minute while we waited for the others to arrive.

After everyone had settled in we picked a restaurant to eat at and then after dinner headed to the theatre. This was my second trip to the theatre but I had been trying to get Marc there for yrs (on two occasions it did not work out). I knew once he went he would love it (and I was correct because he's already planning for us to go back to see Sampson next year). lol

The next morning after a hurried breakfast and a goodbye to our members we hit the outlets (yes they have a Disney store), grabbed some food and then drove back to my moms. Vacation was slowly coming to and end!

Day 4 Rosewell Ruins Gloucester VA

Sunday was busy hanging out with family and friends at my home churches annual Homecoming so I don't have any pictures from Day 3. That Monday though we really stayed in our own backyard by visiting the Rosewell Ruins, a plantation in my hometown. Honestly until this year I did not know about the existence of this place. I knew there were plantations/mansions in the area but had never paid much attention to them or their history. But for some reason this place fascinated me. Marc still can't figure out why we needed to see it. Its not a spot you would easily find unless you were looking for it.  Its actually kind of said that this is all that is left of such a magnificent building. Believe it or not some people have actually held weddings on the spot! It actually advertises itself as a place with a ghostly place. Although I don't personally believe in ghost the place does have a rather sad, and eerie feeling about it!

Tuesday we went home briefly to pick up some stuff Marc needed for a job, and met the kids for some wedding planning stuff.

Day 2 Waterman's Museum Yorktown VA

Day 2 After a breakfast with family and friends Marc and I headed across the water to visit the Waterman's Museum in Yorktown VA. I've passed the museum several times while down at the beach but once again had never gone inside. The museum is very quaint and doesn't actually take a long time to tour but its a great spot to explore outside as well as inside just because its on the water. They also host weddings in a separate building with a beautiful terrace and pergola. And as you can see they have space outside for a tent as well. As I get older I have a new appreciation for the area in which I grew up and the fact that I was blessed to be raised in such a beautiful setting. Later that day we celebrated the anniversary of my little cousin and her husband.

Stay Vacation Day 1 Colonial Williamsburg

We spent nearly ten days exploring our own backyard. Thanks to my mom who's home has been our home away from home the last two years we got to spend a relaxing vacation hanging out in the country with family and friends. The first day on our way to my mom's we stopped at Colonial Williamsburg for the day (even picked up a season pass) so we will be back again probably around Christmas. I love this place! Been visiting since I was a kid but have never had the opportunity to go inside some of the buildings that required a ticket. The place is so big it will take several more visits before we actually get to see everything.
