Black Cultural Museum in Halifax
I am still learning more about the history of Blacks in Nova Scotia. But the tour of the Black Cultural Center in Halifax was very informative. Our guide (I think her name was Matilda) was a wealth of information, and helped to make the tour very fun. Unfortunately the weather was pretty bad. It was pouring down rain almost the entire time of our return from the museum to the ship. One of the things that the curator said when he first introduced himself was that many blacks who came from the states and other areas to visit more then likely found some connection from their own past here. Sort of like crossing into another country to find out you have cousins! We didn't believe him at the beginning of the tour but ironically he had relatives that deceanded from my own family's region of VA. And we were actually on the bus with a women and her daughter (who were also on the Glory) who had gone to college with one of our cousins. Talk about small world! We spent about an hour at the museum and then took a ride through the area that was once known for housing many of the blacks in the area.
